A man was mysteriously found dead at the iconic Magic Castle in Los Angeles on Friday night, and authorities suspect they could be dealing with a suicide.
Cops responded to the exclusive Hollywood magicians’ club and fine dining restaurant after receiving a report of a dead body around 7:30 p.m. local time, officials said.
The victim’s identity was not immediately disclosed. A Hollywood police spokesman told the Daily News that foul play couldn’t immediately be ruled out, but investigators suspect that the death was self-inflicted.
Responding paramedics supposedly discovered a man, wearing only his underwear, dead inside a closet, according to TMZ. He had a bag over his head and appeared to have hung himself, the gossip site reported.
A police spokesman told The News that the TMZ report was “on point,” but declined to officially corroborate the ghastly details.
A front desk clerk at the Magic Castle hung up the phone when reached by a News reporter early Saturday.
The Hollywood landmark opened up its doors in 1963 to cater specifically to magicians and illusionists, proclaiming itself “the most extraordinary private club in the world.” It offers fine dining and magic shows. It also touts a “Clubhouse,” which is only accessible to professional magicians and their guests.
“A typical evening — if there even is such a thing here — features magic shows that range from miracles right under your nose to full stage illusions that stun an entire room,” reads an entry on the Castle’s website.
